Leadership

School Road/ Fields Ertel Nature Center

"I am so proud to have lobbied the Sycamore Township Trustees into buying the 16 acres on the corner of Fields Ertel and School Roads". That property would now be 100 to 150 condos and our neighborhood would have been destroyed with traffic, loss of green space and wildlife etc. Not only did I fight off one developer, the second one -- MI homes -- came forward and I did it again. I rallied together 300 neighbors to come to the zoning meeting and we were successful in getting MI Homes to back off. Then my real work began. I found out the owner of the property was ready to sell (due to an illness), Mr. Miller (on behalf of the Township) made an offer to the owner and the Township purchased that property for under $400,000. I also clued the Township into what I thought the owner would sell for, after doing a bit of research on my own, which resulted in a great deal especially for land in Sycamore Township. So, not only did I stop the developers, I continued the fight till the property was forever preserved into a park by our Township. I also told the Township that another piece of property was available on Deerfield Road and they took my lead and purchased it as well for parkland.

       Warner cable Settlement

Professionally, I am most proud to have stood up to Time Warner Cable (a huge corporation) and demand a settlement for non-compliance contractual issues on behalf of the ICRC community's residents. My persistence amounted to almost a million dollar settlement back in 1994. I am not afraid or intimidated to stand up to large corporations to fight for injustice on behalf of our citizenry.

       Sycamore Senior Center

Personally, I am most proud of the volunteer work I do on behalf of the Sycamore Senior Center/Maple Knoll Retirement Communities. After caring for my two aging parents and then losing both of them to illnesses, I find my work with improving the lives of our aging population so very gratifying. Sycamore Township population consists of 25% senior citizens so I am confident once elected I can represent that segment of our community with the most dignity and compassion. I feel I am the most qualified candidate who understands the ever-changing needs of our older population as that segment of our population in Sycamore Township increases over time. I pledge, if elected, to increase funding to the Sycamore Senior Center that provides so many essential services to our residents and allows them to stay in their Sycamore Township homes for as long as they are able to. My tenure as a Board of Director for over ten years gives me the experience needed to serve our older adults into the future.
